How to make a contribution

Contributions are welcome on this site on any aspect of the Weald of Kent, Surrey & Sussex. They may be presented in almost any format and the information contained is then converted into the databases that underpin the web site. This can take a little while dependant on the extent of the contribution.

Each piece of information so submitted is tagged with a reference back to the contributor. This tag enables visitors to the web site to email any questions directly to the contributor. This is done in a manner that ensures that Email addresses are not accessible on the web site in order to prevent abuse and SPAM.

There are three ways to contribute - by post (email theweald@btconnect.com to request my address), by e-mail or by using a form

The way in which information can be submitted is up to the contributor. Typically, contributors add information to an email or form in a free textual format, or attach files to an email. These files can be in almost any format - for example: Excel, Word, Powerpoint, PDF, and GEDCOM - however in a practical sense the best formats are EXCEL and GEDCOM as the conversion is relatively automatic. Images can be submitted as .jpg or .bmp or, indeed, most other available formats.

Family history submissions are very welcome where ancestors and/or descendants are from outside the Weald. It is not untypical to see ancestors from Scotland whose descendants lived in Sussex before emigrating to Australia. The entire genealogical pedigree is more than welcome on this site.

All the contributions are accepted in good faith and are converted as presented. Where the contribution overlaps with an existing contributor preference is given to the earliest or most comprehensive contribution.

The web site is in the public domain and hence contributors need to be sensitive to the privacy of information about living individuals. Additionally, the rules about copyright must be adhered to.

The site is accredited by and hence any material submitted must adhere to those standards.
